Aiding Generations
Oct 19, 2023
At Aiding Generations, we provide underserved teens the opportunity to build long-term, meaningful careers in the rapidly growing and understaffed senior living industry.
Since our inception among hospitality professionals studying at Boston University, our mission has guided everything we do.
Through AG, interested teens from Boston’s underserved communities become mentees at premier senior living communities committed to intergenerational bridge-building. During each mentee’s six-month placement in their senior living community, they work towards a certification that will prepare them for a fulfilling career in health services, like a CNA (Certified Nursing Assistantship). Mentees also gain valuable field experience in the senior living industry, a rapidly growing sector with abundant opportunities for professional development and promotion. Throughout their hands-on experience, mentees meet regularly with senior living and youth development pros to build their skills as interns, support their growth as young people, and prepare them to prosper in the labor market. Upon successful completion of the program, these three outcomes–a useful certification, a well of experience in a growth industry, and a wealth of wisdom from a mentor-mentee partnership–are guaranteed, positioning youth to make their mark in the workforce.
After six months spent soaking in the values and culture of a senior living community, a mentee who is a good match for their placement community can access a third outcome: long-term employment in the community–with opportunities for career advancement. This sets up the mentee to flourish throughout their career. Not only that, senior living communities’ choice to hire good matches through AG ensures that more seniors get the attentive care they need, from waitstaff all the way up to top administrators.Â
